Tasks and skills of a Performance Engineer
You are interested in working at triscon, but you’re not exactly sure what an Application Performance Engineer actually does? triscon could be an interesting employer for you, but you’re wondering what your workday would look like? Well, then welcome to your day at work as an IT consultant in the exciting field of performance engineering!
Let’s start your day!
Your day begins between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. with an energetic, internal team meeting, where you coordinate upcoming tasks with your colleagues or gather any information to make sure your workday will be successful. After that, you start with external customer dailies and regular meetings with your clients: For example, to advise them on the topic of load and performance testing, to conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting for tests that have already been carried out, or to prepare upcoming tests by creating test cases and setting up the necessary infrastructure.
But don’t worry, you will always find the opportunity to get some coffee and chat with your colleagues – whether remotely or in person. Because teamwork and cohesion are our top priority.
Recharge your batteries and move on!
After a productive morning, you finally treat yourself with a well-deserved lunch break to recharge your batteries – because even IT heroes need a break sometimes! The best thing about taking the first bite? You know that your meal didn’t cost you anything because you pulled out the Sodexo card provided by triscon to pay.
After lunch you go back to business: Oops, one of your customers is experiencing a production disruption. Nobody can say exactly what’s going on and everyone is a bit nervous about the resulting downtime. Everyone but you, because you know that you can find out the cause of the disruption very quickly with the monitoring tools at your disposal.
And there it is, the trigger for the problem. Nothing that can’t be solved! So you organize an ad hoc meeting with the departments involved, explain what’s going on and what steps the client’s developers need to take to fix the disruption. Everyone is happy and extremely grateful that you have saved them from long periods of downtime, so you can sit back contentedly and take a deep breath.
Time to learn!
Ah, the doorbell has rung. It’s the Amazon courier with your long-awaited delivery. Thank god you can work from home so flexibly at triscon. Then you can receive the package yourself and don’t have to pick it up from your neighbor, who regularly gives you a hard time whenever he crosses your path.
Now that your package has finally been delivered, you’re really motivated to learn some new things. The only question is: Do you want to take part in the latest Dynatrace seminar so that you can get even better at monitoring and observability, or do you want to focus on the ISTQB course on performance testing?
It doesn’t matter, both topics are interesting and the rest of the afternoon flies by until you decide to call it a day. You quickly exchange a few Teams messages with your colleagues, check your calendar for tomorrow, then shut down your laptop and turn off your work mobile phone. Fortunately, no employee at triscon is expected to be available outside of working hours.
